It is never too late to learn something new
I read once that most kids decide around the age of ten whether they consider themselves an artist or not. As a type-A person who was always told that my strengths lay in my left brain qualities, I surely believed the same thing.
Around 2019, about 7 years into being a stay-at-home mom, I decided I wanted to learn something new. I needed to have something I could do, that was just for me. I bought professional grade paints (just a few colors) some brushes and sat down to Youtube to start my new hobby. I didn’t get very far when the pandemic hit and any time to pursue an artistic endeavor quickly evaporated. Over the next two years I barely touched my materials as we navigated the art of all being together…all the time.
On the other side of that, I picked up a brush again. I was always drawn to florals and I watched countless tutorials to continue to develop my skills. In the spring of 2024 my sister, a realtor, asked if I would paint a house she had just closed on as a gift to her client. I immediately fell in love. It felt so special to try to capture such a sacred place for a family and I loved that they were all so different, a new challenge in each.
It’s hard to call yourself an artist when you are self taught. It’s hard to call yourself an artist when you have had a career in the business world. It’s hard to call yourself an artist when you have spent over a decade staying at home with your family, but here I am.
As a gift to myself, for my 45th birthday, I am making it official. I have an art business and I can’t wait to create for you.
